Sadie Davis was born in Detroit, MI September 7, 1920. Her parents were Alphonso and Florine Brown. Her father was born in 1898 in Springhill TN and her mother was born in Nashville TN in 1901. Her father was a factory worker at General Motors…He started in 1923 in Flint, MI and worked all his life until he retired in the 1960’s. Sadie has six sisters and one brother and she is second to the oldest. Four of her siblings are still living. One in Colorado. One in California and her brother lives in Southfield. Sadie started in Wingert Elementary then to Mc Michael then to Cass Tech where she graduated in 1937. Sadie graduated from Cosmetology school. Sadie’s first job was a t drugstore where she worked as a Soda Jerk. At that time eggs were .19 a doz! She then worked at Hygrade meat packing company labeling cans. Sadie was married on July 17th 1948 to Leonard Davis. He worked at Revira Copper and Brass. They lived in an apartment for 10 years and then they built a house on Tuxedo between Monica and America. They have one daughter, Eunice who was named after Sadie’s aunt. She had four children; Darryn, Brian, Courtney, and Monique. Sadie has seven great grandchildren. She sees them often and really loves her grandchildren.
Sadie had a dog, a white chow named Beauty for many years. Sadie loves to play Bridge and belonged to Bridge Clubs most of her life, she does not do that as much because she doesn’t drive. No one at her new home plays and many of her old bridge partners have died or are sick. Sadie loves to cook, especially cakes, she made them and sold them to people who wanted them for holiday parties. She always entertained the family at every holiday because everyone loved her food. Sadie always had a garden where she would grow green beans, tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers, okra.
Sadie’s favorite singers are Sara Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald and Doris Day, Frank Sinatra and Billy Eckstien. Betty Davis was a favorite actress as was Katherine Hepburn and Joan Crawford. The war in Iraq is worrying Sadie, she does not think we should go to war but we should support the President. She does not see where the country is a problem to the United States.
