Is it true that one would have to do some weight training exercise to maintain muscle strength?

Absolutely. Weight training not only increases muscle mass but also increases bone strength, which is why it is so important for seniors for engage in these exercises.

Someone on TV once said that we are the tinest fat nation in the world. What they meant was that while everyone is concentrating on losing weight, they don't pay attention to muscle to bone ratios and still maintain a fair degree of body mass. This person showed how a very thin model actually had no muscle development but a fair degree of fat on her arms.

Weight training is healthy because it increases metabolism - which means that you continue to use calories even after you stop exercising. It improves coordination, decreases the possiblity of injury and generally makes a person feel more energized.
