Everyone hopes a long-term care event will not happen. The self talk says, “I’m healthy. My kids will take care of me. Medicare will pay. I’ll die in my sleep. If I get Alzheimer’s, I won’t know what’s happening anyway.” – all the excuses we make to ourselves to avoid facing the issue.

Diabetes affects one in 5 Americans 65 and older and the number of Americans 75 and older with Diabetes is projected to increase from about 1 million in 2000 to more than 4 million in 2050. Nearly 18.2 million Americans have Diabetes and one third (5.2 million) are not aware that they have Diabetes.

Home Health Care includes a variety of services for occupational, physical, respiratory, speech therapy or nursing care. Also included are medical social worker, home health aid, and homemaker services. These are services a patient is able to receive in their own home or the home of a relative or friend during a period of convalescence or for a chronic illness or injury.

In March the U. S. Office of Personnel Management launched its early enrollment opportunity to make Long-Term Care insurance available to its more than 20 million employees. Its "Federal Family" will be able to enroll between March 25th and May 15th, 2002. This is the period of time in which people that are familiar with Long-Term Care insurance and its importance in our retirement planning will enroll.
