(50PlusPrime) TROY, MICHIGAN --
It's Back to School time and homework isn't the only thing coming home with our children!
Germs, and lots of them, will be traveling with our kids this fall. While most adults can get through this season with a little bit on inconvenience, the very young, and those with poor immune systems like the seniors in our lives, have a harder time fighting off infections like the common cold.
It is important to remember to keep their hands clean. When they cover their mouth with their hands when they cough and/or sneeze, we as parents need to remind them to go and wash their hands before touching anything.
Eating right can help build everyones immune systems. Eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables along with plenty of protein, will keep your immune system healthy. Make sure to add plenty of fluids also.
Get plenty of rest. Rest is important as when our bodies are fighting infections. We parents are sometimes very poor examples of this, I know I am. When we are sick, we need to remember to limit our exposure to others as well. This will help break the chain.
Keeping active when you are healthy will help build your body's immune system. Walking, light weight training, and aerobic exercise will help keep your muscles firm and toned.
If you are experiencing any signs of the cold or flu, see your primary care giver. While the cold is a virus and antibiotics don't work on viruses, other bacteria will take advantage of your weakened immune system and may cause other problems.
Stay well!
