(50PlusPrime) OAK PARK, MICHIGAN --

I received an email this week that asks that question --- how do you say goodbye to a pet?  The email was one that was sent out to a broad audience.  You may have even received it.

It had this beautiful photo of a small child hugging a black lab dog.  It was heart breaking to read that the little girl wrote a letter to God asking God to welcome her beloved pet into Heaven.  Her dog had died and she was concerned that God wouldn’t recognize him.  She sent the photo and the letter.

Her mother was astonished to find a reply and a book both addressed from God.

I found this story to be such a lovely story to read.  I recently lost my pet parakeet.  I wrote about him in another article several years ago.  My parakeet, Willy died because I forgot about their delicate nature.  I opened a window to cool off the room and it was just too much for Willy.  I found it difficult to watch a helpless creature of God’s die a slow death.

I can’t answer if there is a Heaven for pets.  I would hope that God has a special place for all of his creatures – big and small.
