May and June are when a special day is celebrated to honor our mothers and fathers.  A reader recently wrote that everyday we should honor our mothers.  That is what Christians know the Bible tells us in the Fourth Commandment:  Thou shalt honor thy Mother and Father.

Do we need a special day?  Many times we get busy in the hussel and bussel of everyday activities.  As a young child we may be corrected by one of our parents.  The child often replies "Aw Mom, you don't understand."  Yes, Mom and Dad do understand they were there in your shoes once upon a time.

As adults we also get caught up in the day to day activities.  Maybe working overtime to meet the demanding increases in prices at the pump and grocery store.

How do we make everyday a special day for our mothers and fathers?  When they are gone as mine are, I just pray that they are happy with God.  I also have no regrets, because when they were alive I kept in constant contact with them..  Calling and visiting as much as possible.  It was important to make them feel needed and important by listening to the wisdom they were able to share with me as a child and as an adult.

We need to remember to "honor" our mothers and fathers everyday not just one day a year.
