We need you! Save the date for Legislative Day 2010 on Wednesday, May 12th   in Lansing, Michigan.

Legislative Day is one of the Alzheimer Association’s signature events and a great chance to have your voice heard in Lansing!  Participants meet with their state senators and representatives to discuss Alzheimer’s issues.

This year’s Legislative Day is extremely important as we are advocating for some vital resources for the Alzheimer's Association, including the income tax check-off and fundraiser license plate which could generate some much needed revenue for the Association.  The Association is trying to overcome the loss of state resources for unpaid caregivers that were cut from the state’s 2010 budget.

Rep. Marc Corriveau (R-Northville) is working with us to introduce legislation which would allow individuals to donate to the Association when they are preparing their state tax returns.  This “income tax check-off” option would greatly assist us in maintaining the unpaid caregiver programs and services.

Roger Bushnell, who cares for both of his parents who have been diagnosed with the disease, has already signed up for Legislative Day 2010.  “Many lawmakers are unfamiliar with the financial, emotional and physical impact that an Alzheimer’s diagnosis can place on a family so the Alzheimer’s Association relies on volunteers to meet with elected officials and bridge that information gap,” Bushnell said.

Please consider signing up!  Transportation is available in your area - contact Carrie Collins at 248.996.1059 or ccollins@alz.org for more information and to register.
