Nutrition Article FURTHER PROOF: IT PAYS TO GO VEGAN!(50PlusPrime) NORFOLK, VIRGINIA -- The health component of the “holy trinity” of veganism (animals, the environment, and health) just got a double boost from two recent studies. Researchers in California have discovered that a natural soy component may help prevent colon cancer from turning your colon into a semi-colon-or worse, a death sentence. A news release on the study noted that “[f]irst, we are encouraged to find a natural molecule that could be consumed through soy products as a strategy to help prevent colon cancer.” While eating meat has long been linked to increasing the risk of colon cancer, now eating soy products has been linked to preventing colon cancer. A vegan diet, typically chock full of soy, may be just what the doctor ordered. Want to live long enough to see animal rights become a reality? A recent study by British researchers suggests that reduced consumption of a specific protein found in meat, fish, and certain nuts could slow the aging process and increase life expectancy. Dr. Matthew Piper, from the Institute of Healthy Ageing at University College London, indicated that a vegetarian diet could be one way to achieve that effect. While the study suggests that a vegetarian diet may be the ticket to longevity, a vegan diet will only increase the odds by avoiding the high-fat and high-cholesterol content of eggs and dairy products. Long live the vegan! Despite the myths propagated by the animal agriculture industry, the evidence is overwhelming—and, as we see here, continually increasing—that a vegan diet is a viable, sensible and healthy diet. It’s a win-win-win: It’s good for animals, it’s good for the Earth, and it’s good for your health. It’s all the more reason to go vegan.
